Torn
First of all I want to say, I did not read this book to help my daughter lose weight but to maintain and healthy weight and learn good nutrition. So my judgment may be different then others.

First the good. The concept is good and very appealing to kids. It is a great way to teach kids portion control. You get so many green foods a day and you can trade green foods to get yellow. You also get two red foods a week. Non sweetened fruit and veggies are unlimited. There are also some good diagrams such as hunger and fulness scale, and how to measure portion sizes.

The bad. There are a lot of green foods that are not nutritious. Example: Lucky Charms, white bread and white pasta, totino pizza rolls, candy corn, jelly beans, peeps, 100 cal packs and so on. And while I believe everything in moderation, I don't feel this is good way to teach nutrition. Also she uses a lot of Splenda. So if you have reservations about this you will want to use something...
My kid gets it... and likes having tools to make good decisions

My daughter has been heavy since the day she was born @ 10LB 12OZ, 8 years ago. She LOVES to eat but is starting to hate the effects of being heavy (like feeling different from other kids and not being as good at sports and such). This book not only gives me a foundation for talking with her about making changes (as opposed to me vapidly nagging and talking abstractly about making good choices), but also a simple, straightforward guide upon which she can base her good food related decisions. I think reading this book together takes a lot of the "sting" out of talking about her excess weight (and mine) and gives her tools she can use to change her eating habits for life.

She likes the book, she gets the concepts, she is making progress.

I think we all need a bit of a kick-start in the new year by eating right, especially with our kids! Red Light, Green Light, Eat Right is fabulous, not just for the parent of a child who is overweight, but for all parents. I can already tell you from experience this book is changing how I help my child who is struggling with weight. It has been a while since I have found a book that I wanted to read slowly so that I could soak in every detail in hopes that the last page seems to never come.

When reading the synopsis of this novel, I never imagined that I would feel so connected to a book where one of the main characters is blind and the other a brilliant young German orphan who was chosen to attend a brutal military academy under Hitler's power using his innate engineering skills.

This novel was so much more than the above states. The idiosyncrasies of each individual character are so well defined and expressed in such ways that come across the page almost lyrically. I was invited into the pages and could not only imagine the atmosphere, but all of my senses were collectively enticed from the very first page until the last.

I was so amazed with the way that the author was able to heighten all my senses in a way that I felt like I knew what it was like to be blind. In most...

Set in World War II France and Germany, All the Light We Cannot See is my favorite kind of novel: long, rich, populated by a range of imperfect characters, some who try to transcend that imperfection, others who cannot see it.

ALL THE LIGHT WE CANNOT SEE is one of the best books you’ll read this year. On one hand, the title implies the lessons learned by a young German orphan boy about radio waves. On the other hand, as the author describes it, “It’s also a metaphorical suggestion that there are countless invisible stories still buried within World War II.” Add in a newly blinded French girl who is forced to leave her familiar surroundings, and you’ll soon find yourself in literary heaven.

The layered meanings run deep in this book. No wonder nearly every advanced review uses the word “intricate” to describe this masterpiece. Fast, delicious and low in fat! Perfect!
After spending more than 30 years as an overweight person, I devoted myself in the last few years to eating healthy, nutritious meals that are low in fat and calories. The problem is of course that, many times, those meals are also low on taste.

A few weeks back my ex-wife (go figure) told me about The Skinnytaste Cookbook. She knows I'm always looking for new recipes and I have to say, her recommendation was a really good one. I've tried almost a dozen recipes so far and they are easy to prepare, taste amazing and are somehow still low in sugar, calories and fat! (My favorite so far, even though it's not actually a meal, are the heavenly banana nut oat muffins.)

One habit that I have gotten into is to take Garcinia Cambogia with every meal, and it's been a fantastic combination with the recipes in this cookbook. I feel full, don't have those hunger cravings that really annoy me and the...
Now I understand the cult following and rave reviews. I am now, too, a raving fan--and it's a diet cookbook! Sssshhhh!
At the time I bought this, I'd heard nothing about it. I had simply rarely seen a cookbook with so many glowing reviews, especially for one with "skinny" in the title. I have reviewed scores of cookbooks on Amazon and have bookshelves full, like some do a reading library. But I must say, this is one of the most well-done I have personally ever seen myself. I can understand, now, the cult following it's received.

First, let's touch on how "now" this cookbook is...by that I mean it has stepped out of old school cookbooks and how they have always been done, and considered today's audience and what they might need. So many of us are on special diets or have to entertain for a family member or guest who is and pull something together--whether that be gluten-free, vegetarian, something for a family who works during the day and needs crockpot meals, something for a family who works all the time and only wants to cook on weekends and then freeze the meals... this book took...
I was so pleased that it was so big
I have followed the Skinnytaste blog since 2010. I don't buy cookbooks anymore as I keep an iPad in the kitchen but I definitely wanted this one on my shelf! I was so pleased that it was so big, packed with recipes AND beautiful pictures.

My husband and I have both lost 30 lbs over the past year and Skinnytaste recipes were a huge part of this accomplishment. Gina's Chicken Enchiladas, Crock Pot Santa Fe Chicken and Crock Pot Chicken Taco Chili are weekly staples in our house. My 2 year old gobbles them all down. My husband adores the enchiladas. There is a fair amount of prep in many of her recipes as others have pointed out (with the exception of the crock pot recipes of course) but pace yourself..it's totally worth it. The recipes have flavor, I promise! I put my toddler down for a nap one day last week and made 6 batches of enchilada sauce and tossed them in the freezer. We had some left over shredded chicken (crock pot style) and we tried her Buffalo Chicken...

The state of the art e-ink reader but is it worth the money to upgrade

I was very happy with my Paperwhite and would not have bought this ...
Since other people have gone into detail on the device, I will answer only the burning questions I had before I received mine. I was very happy with my Paperwhite and would not have bought this had mine not been stolen/lost (not sure which). My husband still has his Paperwhite, so I was able to compare them side by side.

CAN I USE THE WALL CHARGER FROM MY PAPERWHITE TO CHARGE THE VOYAGE?

Yes.

CAN PRESSING THE PAGE TURNERS CAUSE REPETITIVE USE ISSUES?

I don't think so. You can turn down the pressure it needs (which is very slight) or you can turn it off completely and turn pages with a tap. It's actually nice to have both options.

CAN YOU SEE WHERE TO TURN THE PAGES IN THE DARK?

No. You can guess where the page forward area is, but the page back is a dot, so guessing would be difficult. But you can still tap to turn pages. Using a cover helps, as the edge of the cover would be right over the dot.

Almost like Paperwhite v1 all over again
I've got mixed feelings on this one, unfortunately. This review is coming from a kindle enthusiast who has owned or used nearly every variation of the device since the 1st generation.

Size & Weight

It's noticeably smaller and lighter than the Paperwhite. When I saw the specs it didn't really strike me as something that would make much difference to me, but in real life it's actually great. The Voyage fits into a few of my coat pockets that the Paperwhite was just a little too big to fit into.

Origami Cover

I know there's a separate product page for the origami cover, but it's worth mentioning here as it is the "official" cover. The origami cover is ugly and I was skeptical, but I actually love it. It's weird because it opens by flipping over the top like a notepad. This actually makes it more comfortable to hold when the cover is open, in my opinion. A great product that's now even better

No big improvement in the 2015 model
As a background, I am a retired Information Systems professional and I am writing this review from the perspective of being a long-time Kindle user. I have all the current e-readers and Fire devices from Amazon including the basic Kindle, the 2013, 2014 and new 2015 Paperwhite, the Fire HD6, Fire HD7, Fire HDX7 and Fire HDX8.9. This review is for the 2015 “All-New Kindle Paperwhite.” The attached picture shows the 2014 Kindle on the left and the new 2015 Kindle on the right. Here is the summary of my initial impressions of the 2015 model versus the 2014 model.

I am somewhat disappointed in the 2015 version as there is not a huge improvement over last year’s model. The Paperwhite made many improvements from its original first generation 2012 model to its second generation 2013 model, especially in the display and processor area.
